Upon approval by the US Army Corps of Engineers, Chatfield State Park will be experiencing various recreational and environmental construction activities beginning in early December 2017 and lasting through March 2020.

The initial (Season 1) construction activities will require that all day use facilities and trails located along the westside of the Reservoir be closed. Impacted areas include North Boat Ramp, Massey Draw, Eagle Cove, Swim Beach, Balloon Launch, Deer Creek, Jamison, Catfish Flats, and Fox Run.

Environmental mitigation work began on Plum Creek on November 13, 2017, which means the Plum Creek Day Use Area and the Plum Creek Nature Area are now closed.

The West Perimeter Road north of the Swim Beach will remain open during the day to allow access to the Dog Off Leash Area, but the roadway will be closed from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am daily. The West Perimeter Road south of the Swim Beach to west of King Fisher will be closed to the public until May 25, 2018. The Perimeter Road along the eastside of the reservoir, from Heron Viewing Area to the South Platte Bridge will be closed from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am.

Kingfisher, Gravel Ponds, Heron Viewing Area, CPW Park Headquarters, Campgrounds, Marina, Model Airplane Runway, and Roxborough Cove will remain open during Season 1, however, those areas will only be accessible via the South Park Entrance off Roxborough Road.
