Herbicides Application in Plum Creek Nature Area – 7/10/19
May 31, 2019

Swim Beach is on track to open by Memorial Day Weekend! Construction updates also cover the Marina, Perimeter Road, trails, and several day use areas.

Aside from the heavy rainfall last week, the warmer temperatures have allowed for productive progress in our efforts to reopen the first wave of day use areas by Memorial Day Weekend.  We are pleased to report that Swim Beach and Catfish Flats will be open in time for the upcoming holiday weekend.  Additionally, the trail system from Deer Creek to Catfish Flats, including the Trailmark Trail, will also be completed and reopened for recreational use.

Progress at the Marina continues to go well.  We are still anticipating reopening the docks to boat slip renters by June 1, 2019.  Also scheduled for June 1st is the reopening of the South Boat Ramp and boat parking lot (for trailered boat access only).  Until the rest of the landside Marina facilities and parking lots are completed, we highly encourage all public boaters to use the North Boat Ramp, especially on the weekends.

Unfortunately, we are still struggling with saturated soils south of Catfish Flats, which means that the reopening of Fox Run Day Use Area will likely push until July 3rd.  Gravel Ponds, Kingfisher, Roxborough Cove, and the Perimeter Road are all currently tracking to reopen by July 3rd as well.

Access to the Plum Creek Nature Area from the Park’s south entrance will be restricted until July 3rd, when we are currently anticipating the new access road and trail will be completed.

Chatfield Reservoir Mitigation Company (CRMC) will continue to reevaluate construction progress weekly and will provide schedule updates to inform park users of earlier openings, if good weather and corresponding construction efficiencies allow for increased production.

Please see the below updates for further information on anticipated reopenings:

North Boat Ramp

As of March 26, 2019, the North Boat Ramp is open.  Due to the heavy construction activities at the Marina, we highly encourage boaters to use the North Boat Ramp until all amenities at the Marina are reopened, which is anticipated to occur by July 3, 2019.

Swim Beach

The Swim Beach (including the new facilities, parking lots, and access to the shoreline) will be open by Memorial Day Weekend 2019.

Marina Docks

The Marina docks are anticipated to reopen to boat slip renters by June 1, 2019.  Though power and water will be available to the slips on June 1, 2019, the permanent fuel and sanitary removal facilities will not be available until mid-July 2019.  CRMC, however, will be working with Chatfield State Park and the Concessionaire to provide temporary floating fuel and sanitary lift facilities on June 1, 2019 and until the permanent facilities are completed.

Marina Boat Ramp/Boat Parking Lot/Restrooms

The South Boat Ramp and boat parking lot are anticipated to reopen for trailered boat access only (no shoreline access) by June 1, 2019.  We highly encourage all public boaters to use the North Boat Ramp, especially on the weekends, until the remaining parking lots, trails, and picnic areas at the Marina are completed, which is anticipated to occur by July 3, 2019.  Temporary parking areas for Marina slip renters will be provided to access their boats.

Marina Car Parking Lots/Restrooms/Trails/Picnic Areas

The remaining marina landside construction, including car parking lots, restrooms, trails, picnic areas, and landscaping, is anticipated to be completed by July 3, 2019.

Marina Floating Facility

The completion of the Marina’s store and restaurant facility have been pushed to the end of August 2019. CRMC will be working with Chatfield State Park and the Marina’s concessionaire to provide temporary services while the store and restaurant are under construction.
