The cold and wet weather this winter has resulted in delays in completing various construction activities at Chatfield State Park.  The freezing temperatures and steady moisture have made dirt work activities almost impossible during the months of January and February 2019.

The heavily saturated soils in the larger dirt work areas along Perimeter Road, Kingfisher, Gravel Ponds, and the Marina have resulted in the construction schedule being significantly impacted.

Chatfield Reservoir Mitigation Company (CRMC) and Chatfield State Park have been working diligently with the contractors to evaluate available resources to make up lost time and to establish a refined construction completion schedule.  Regretfully, opening dates have generally been pushed by one month in order to adjust for lost construction days due to the inclement weather.  CRMC will continue to work with its contractors to move construction forward as efficiently and productively as possible.

CRMC will be reevaluating construction progress weekly, and will provide schedule updates to inform park users of earlier openings, if good weather and corresponding construction efficiencies allow for increased production.

Please see the below updates for further information on anticipated reopenings:

North Boat Ramp

As of March 26, 2019, the North Boat Ramp is open.  Due to the heavy construction activities at the Marina, we highly encourage boaters to use the North Boat Ramp until all amenities at the Marina are reopened, which is anticipated to occur by July 3, 2019.

For more information, please visit Chatfield State Park’s boating page: https://cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/parks/Chatfield/Pages/Boating.aspx

Swim Beach

The Swim Beach (including the new facilities, parking lots, and access to the shoreline) is anticipated to reopen by Memorial Day Weekend 2019.

Marina Docks

The Marina docks are anticipated to reopen to boat slip renters by June 1, 2019.  Though power and water will be available to the slips by June 1, 2019, the permanent fuel and sanitary removal facilities will not be available until mid-July 2019.  CRMC, however, will be working with Colorado State Parks and the Concessionaire to provide temporary floating fuel and sanitary lift facilities on June 1, 2019 and until the permanent facilities are completed.

Marina Boat Ramp/Boat Parking Lot/Restrooms

The South Boat Ramp, boat parking lot, and adjacent restrooms are anticipated to reopen for trailered boat access only (no shoreline access) by June 1, 2019.  We highly encourage all public boaters to use the North Boat Ramp, especially on the weekends, until the remaining parking lots, trails, and picnic areas at the marina are completed, which is anticipated to occur by July 3, 2019.  Temporary parking areas for Marina slip renters will be provided to access their boats.

Marina Car Parking Lots/Trails/Picnic Areas

The remaining marina landside construction, including car parking lots, trails, picnic areas, and landscaping, is anticipated to be completed by July 3, 2019.

Marina Floating Facility

The completion of the Marina’s store and restaurant facility has been pushed to the end of August 2019. CRMC will be working with Chatfield State Park and the Marina’s concessionaire to provide temporary services while the store and restaurant is under construction.

Perimeter Road and South Platte Bridge

Trails

The reopening of recreational trails along the west side of the park has been delayed due to the saturated soils.  The trail system from Deer Creek to Jamison is anticipated to be completed by Memorial Day Weekend 2019.  The trail system, stretching from Jamison through South Platte Bridge and to the Heronry, is anticipated to reopen by July 3, 2019.

The Campgrounds are currently only accessible via the Park’s South Entrance off Titan Road and N Roxborough Road.

For your safety, we are depending on the public’s cooperation to stay off closed trails and out of construction areas.

CRMC, Chatfield State Park, and the contractors are committed to reopening the facilities as soon as possible. We will continue to regularly update our webpage: https://chatfieldreallocation.org/construction/ as we move closer to Memorial Weekend to keep you updated on the latest progress.
