On November 15, 2024, the Chatfield Reservoir Mitigation Company (CRMC) began a new phase of selective tree removal as part of the Chatfield Storage Reallocation Project. Depending on ice and ground conditions, reservoir elevation, weather, and other factors, tree removal activities could continue through early spring 2025.

1/27/25 UPDATE:

Due to tree removal operations, Jamison, Fox Run, and the Heronry areas closures remain in effect.

Eagle Cove will reopen January 29th. Kingfisher will be closed starting January 30th. The perimeter trail between Catfish Flats and the South Platte River Bridge is also closed to all foot, bicycle, and horse traffic.  Trail users may use the bicycle lane along the road.

Ice anglers can use the area around the North Boat Ramps, Massey Draw, Catfish Flats, the Gravel Pond, Plum Creek, and Roxborough Cove.  Please stay at least 400′ away from the helicopter work area.


On November 15, 2024, the Chatfield Reservoir Mitigation Company (CRMC) began a new phase of selective tree removal as part of the Chatfield Storage Reallocation Project. The schedule for the third round of selective tree removal since 2018 is as follows:

  • Mid-October to the end of November: Small crew will work to remove accessible trees from the ground, starting at North Boat Ramp and moving down toward Catfish Flats.
  • December 12 to December 21: Helicopter activities will begin near Fox Run and work south toward Kingfisher. The Fox Run parking lot and Perimeter Trail will be closed through December 21.
  • January to March 1: Depending on ice and ground conditions, reservoir elevation, weather, and other factors, helicopter and ground operations could continue in the Kingfisher, Fox Run, and Catfish Flats areas.
  • March 1 to April 1: All material will be hauled off-site, and reseeding efforts will commence in areas impacted by operations.
